The Final Stretch

Whew!!! We are finally here! The final stretch! The Third Trimester!

I’m currently 32 weeks which equates to 8 months pregnant.

If you’ve read my pregnancy announcement you would know that my first trimester wasn’t that great on me. However, my second trimester was prefect! No complaints at all. I had so much energy and was able to get a lot of things done. Now that I’m in my third trimester, fatigue is slowly trying to creep back in and so is the nausea and I’m not ready for that. Especially since there’s quite a bit of stuff to get done before baby arrives.

Lately, I’ve been experiencing swollen feet and hands! I did my research and spoke with my doctor and this is all normal in pregnancy. It’s called edema which is excess fluid that collects in your body tissues. Basically, I’m retaining a lot of water. Edema tends to be worse at the end of the day and during the summer. I’m told that after delivery, the swelling will disappear! Yay! Can’t wait for that!

Let’s talk about the pain that’s associated with the swelling…can we say ouch! At times it is very painful to walk and I’m so sad about that because I love walking everywhere. But I have to take it easy on my poor feet and limit my walking. Wearing heels are a thing of the past for now because I may be able to get them on in the morning but when I return home getting them off is a major task. Elevating my feet and soaking them in Epsom salt are a temporary relief that I look forward to. Also getting my feet massaged has been a life saver.

Jeez I thought my feet swelling up was bad, I cannot believe how fat my fingers are and I love wearing rings but unfortunately I won’t be able to wear any until after the pregnancy. Even writing on paper have become a bit painful. I’m always massaging my fingers to ease the pain that I feel.

This being my first pregnancy and witnessing two of my friends go through preeclampsia makes me worry about the swelling but my blood pressure has been good so my doctor is saying to just keep doing what I’m doing and that I’m almost there.

On top of the fat fingers, I’ve gained 33lbs so far even though people tell me I don’t look it. And I’m so thankful for those compliments because at times I don’t feel pretty, I just feel huge. So when you see a pregnant woman tell her she looks beautiful because in her mind she thinks she looks like a whale.

Also, I was not aware of the “pregnancy mask” that happens to some pregnant women. I’m like two shades darker and it’s not because of the sun lol.

Not every day of pregnancy is easy, some days I’m exhausted and I can barely move. Let’s not even begin to talk about the struggles of getting out of bed and the DROOLING! Yuck right! I even drool when I sleep on the train during my commute to and from work and it’s so embarrassing.

Sometimes the growing pains really do get the best of me. Everything is getting rounder and wider while making room for this beautiful sunshine of mine.

With all of these changes I’m just embracing it and being grateful for this blessing that I’m carrying.

PS….I’m excited to say that I am having a BOY!! I’m so elated and can’t wait to meet my SONshine!

If you’re currently a mommy-to-be or a mommy, what were your third trimester woes?
