Weight Loss Journey – Get Fit, Have Fun

Hey Y’all Hey! Kijan ou Ye! How are you doing?

Here I am, 19 months post giving birth. Can I still say postpartum? I wonder after what point do you stop saying postpartum? But anyway, I’m here to give you all an update on my weight loss journey post baby.

In part 1, I discussed my disdain for the snap back culture. I encourage every new mom to love their new body. You will ‘snap back’ on your OWN terms. So, embrace every step on the way there. Read more HERE.

Part 2, I focused more on detoxing and eating healthy. I stated that I was starting to incorporate workouts into my routine and would give you all an update two months later. Well, jokes on me because that post was written in September of 2020 and obviously it is way past the two-month mark. Read more HERE.

Part 3

So, here we are part 3 of this journey and I’m proud to say that I’ve seen some progress and I’m not mad about that. Now the progress is slow but slow progress is still progress. I only have about 20-30 minutes to get my workout in before my little one starts to require my attention on any given day. Hence why the progress has been slow.

I gave you all a list of some free fitness YouTube channels in part 2 and from September to February of this year I was creating routines from those videos. But honestly, the progress was too SLOW. And although I was seeing progress, I began to get frustrated every time I got on the scale and the numbers wasn’t moving. Heck sometimes it was going up.

You are more than capable of achieving what you set out to do.

Now exercise not only changes your body, it also changes your attitude and mood. I was already confident about my new postpartum body but once I started incorporating exercise, the confidence boost and attitude was on another level. However, my ‘snapback’ was not happening as quickly as I had envisioned once I started working out.

Instead of giving up and quitting…I changed my workouts. I went back to what I knew worked, to someone who changed my body when I first started years ago. I decided to pay for the Jillian Michael’s Fitness App. On the app, she has all her past DVDs plus more. I’ve been using this app since March and have seen so much progress.

Slowly but surely, it’ll happen. Just keep swimming!

Sometimes our body gets stagnant and we hit a plateau. For me, I was able to recognize that quickly and was able to pivot into using something else to aide me in this journey.

My goal now is to get into the best shape of my life but to have fun while doing it. I actually love working out because I love the feeling of accomplishment I get after every workout. I also remind myself that I’m working out for me and only me.

Now let’s get into these gems

8 things I’m doing to get fit
Be consistent

This weight loss journey is not a race. Go at your own pace and set your own goals.

Know your why

Why are you taking this step to lose the weight? Are you doing it for health reasons? Are you just trying to learn to love your body? I want you to sit down and write out what your why is, really sit down and think about it. That way when you feel like quitting and not following through, you can go back and ready your why to remember why you started in the first place.

Stay hydrated

Drinking water not only helps keep you hydrated but it can also improve your skin and flushes your system of waste and toxins.

Do not restrict what you eat

Unless you are allergic to something, eat what you want but moderately. I’ve found that limiting what I eat only makes me angry. And when I crave it, I over indulge. So instead of restricting ice cream, cookies, chips from the line up, I either cut back how many times I consume them or find healthier versions to reduce the fat and sugar intake.

Mix things up

Like I mentioned before, I had hit a plateau…so make sure to mix up your workout routine. Try adding new things to your routine like yoga, running, weight lifting, cardio, HITT training, etc.

Set a goal

Setting a goal or an end date makes things fun. But don’t set extreme body goals that you know you won’t reach. Set an attainable goal. I encourage you to stay focused and motivated to lose weight because it is important in reaching your goal successfully.

Buy new workout clothes

If you ask me, the first step to exercising is finding the right workout clothes. When you look good, you feel good. So, get yourself that new workout fit you were eyeing and get to exercising.

Last but not least…

Stay positive and have fun!!
Here’s a bonus for you…
Stay Off the scale!

The scale doesn’t show you everything. Keep in mind that muscle weighs more than fat. So while your losing fat you may be gaining muscle. I like to track my progress by measuring my waist and by the way my clothes fit. SO, throw that scale away and have fun while shedding pounds.

Until the next post…
